Boarding with us

We live in a bungalow in Higher St Thomas, Exeter and have a big back garden which is fully fenced and gated, totally secure - and there are lots of great smells for our visitors to enjoy. They are welcome anywhere in our house and garden. One of us is at home all of the time other than perhaps a quick trip to the shops - and we ensure that one is home at all times if we have a nervous or insecure guest. Ours is a meticulously clean, non-smoking environment.

Our guests are taken for at least two good walks (each longer than 30 minutes) each day, and they have access to our garden all times. We occasionally drive a short distance (no longer than 10 minutes) but only if this meets with the owner’s consent - we know that some dogs aren't comfortable in cars. Dogs are kept on a lead (a long one for more lively dogs) at all times.

We only board one dog at a time, so every guest gets our full attention, care, and affection – something our regulars truly value.

We feed our guests and provide them with treats strictly in accordance with instructions from their owners. Fresh water is of course available at all times.

We require owners to provide their own dog food and treats – this is not a commercial consideration, it is for the benefit of the dog - experience has shown us that a consistent diet is very important, particularly when settling into a new environment. We also ask owners to bring their dog’s bed(s) and favourite toys - as this helps them to settle in even quicker.

Before we would agree to look after your dog, we ask to meet you and your dog in our home in Exeter,  to be sure that we will all get on with one another. If your dog's first stay is for longer than a couple of nights, an advance trial overnight stay (at 50% of our normal rate) is required to be sure that your dog will settle in and, importantly, not have any eating problems due to separation anxiety. After that, we go through the important detail - eating and sleeping arrangements, exercise preferences, what treats to offer and when, any special needs and so on. We ask you to fill in a form, providing contact details, an emergency local contact, the name and contact details of your vet and so on.

We send daily pictures of our guests to their owners, to give them peace of mind that their friend has settled in well and is secure and happy.

We are insured against accidents and injuries to guest dogs, together with Public Liability cover. A copy of the policy is available on request.
